General Information

It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the 3rd Shōtōkan Connect Tournament.

The categories and format of this year’s event have been thoughtfully structured to ensure that all participants have the opportunity to engage in multiple events, allowing everyone to gain the fullest experience from what we are confident will be an enjoyable, rewarding, and successful day.

This tournament represents an important milestone in the continuing development of our organisation. It also provides an invaluable occasion to strengthen the bonds of friendship within our Karate community - bringing us together to reunite with familiar faces and to warmly welcome new ones.

In short here are some guidelines
Protective equipment and belts
Mitts and Gum shields are compulsory for all Kumite events (Jukuren included).
Chest and Groin guards are recommended.
White Shin and Instep protectors are optional.
For all Kumite events, competitors are required to bring both red and white belts.
For Kata events, competitors must wear their own grade belt.

Individual Kumite
Category will be valid with minimum 3 competitors.
Jukuren
Karateka will be judged on quality, variety and number of techniques.
Only techniques that are allowed in Jiyū Kumite are allowed in Jukuren.
Team Kumite (team code required for entry)
Teams comprise of two male and one female Karateka (+2 reserves).

Individual Kata
Novices to 1st Kyu - can repeat Kata in both elimination rounds and finals.
Dan grades - cannot repeat Kata in elimination rounds, can repeat for finals.
Team Kata (team code required for entry)
Team/Paired - cannot repeat Kata in elimination rounds, can repeat for finals.
Teams consist of 3 Karateka, any grade and any gender.
At least 2 team members must be 16 or over. One member can be under 16yrs.
Open Paired Kata. Mixed, any age and grade. (team code required for entry)
This is a new category this year.
It will run under the same system as Team Kata.
Parent-Child Paired Kata. Any gender, any grade. (team code required for entry)
A pair must be an adult Karateka with their child (under 16).

On the day of the tournament, any complaints or protests may only be raised or submitted to the
Chief Referee or the Tatami Managers, and only by the official Coach of the Competitor or Team concerned.

Competitor entry fees are kept simple:
£20 for your first category and then free for individual events thereafter.
£25 for Team categories
£15 for Pairs categories
Spectator tickets can be purchased online or at the door.
Adults - £5.00, Children - free

Arrive for registration at 09:00
Tournament starts at 09:30

Please note, photographs and video footage will be taken throughout the event.
These will be used for marketing and publicity in our publications, on our website and on social media
or in any third-party publication.
