General Information

Dear Shihan / Sensei

It is with great pleasure and eagerness that I extend this invitation to you and your organization
to our beautiful Province of Kwa-Zulu Natal to participate in the IFFSK 41st National Funakoshi Cup Championship 2025. This event is scheduled to take place on 29 & 30 August 2025
University of Kwa-Zulu Natal Sports Complex, Old Mutual Sports Hall, Durban, Kwa-Zulu Natal

I hope you will not just witness the best of the championships, but also enjoy the hospitality
whilst being able to explore the beauty and extravagance of the Kingdom of the Zulu, Durban
and the various beautiful sites from the wonderful coastlines to the best of nature in many of
our parks.

I would like to encourage all Affiliates, Instructors and Friends from the other Provinces to join
me and my affiliated members of our Hosting Province, Kwa-Zulu Natal to promote this wonderful sport and most importantly strengthen the friendship bond that we currently share.
Let us come together on a common platform to expand our knowledge and make new friends
whilst being together. “An opportunity missed is an opportunity lost”

1. Closing Date for Registrations, Corrections & Payments
The excel entry sheet will be forwarded to you which needs to be completed and submitted
by 20 August 2025 via e-mail correspondence to the Secretary General denver.moonsamy@gmail.com. Any corrections that need to be made must be done by no later than 24 August 2025.

All payments need to be made by Sunday, 24 August 2025. Regrettably no late entries after the 24 August 2025 will be accepted. There will be no refund of tournament fee should an athlete withdraw after their entry has been captured on the Kihapp System

2. Participation Fee:
A fee as per undermentioned will be charged for each individual participating athlete Individual Participation Entry R400.00 per competitor

3. Rules & Tournament Equipment
The Championship rules will be based on the WUKF rules with the latest amendments as per the WUKF Rulebook. It is the responsibility of the dojo instructor, team manager and/or coach to be familiar with the rules and to inform their athletes accordingly.

Tournament Equipment

Compulsory equipment 41st International Funakoshi Cup Championship 2025
• Mitts - Athletes must use bubble type mitts (with or without thumb protector) White / Red only. No Blue Mitts allowed
• Children & Cadet Division competitors will only be required to have one pair of mitts (red or white) however Cadet, Junior, Senior elite (black belt) categories must have both (red and white)
• Gum shields must be worn for all kumite division irrespective of age, gender and belt grade. Only white or clear gum shields will be permitted
• Groin protectors for male Cadets, Juniors and Seniors

Optional
• Chest protectors (Female Kumite)
• Body protectors (Children Kumite)
• Helmets (Children Kumite)

Allowed Equipment
• Sport glasses and contact lenses at own risk during kata. (Letter from a Medical Practitioner needs to be submitted by no later than 24 August 2025). Failure to provide the requested letter will result in the athlete not being able to make use of such.
• Shin protectors
• Only white / red instep protectors

Forbidden Equipment
• Spectacles (glass or hard plastic) for kumite.
• Blue mitts, instep, and shin protectors.
• WKF labels on all equipment (including karate gi) must be removed or taped over.
• T-Shirts on the inside of the Gi Jacket will not be allowed. This applies to all male competitors irrespective of age and belt grade. Only female competitors will be allowed a t-shirt on the inside of the Gi Jacket and must be white.

If any competitor reports to the tatami for participation in the incorrect attire ie. Gi does not confirm with standards of length, WKF Labels not covered, Incorrect or no belt, males with t-shirt inside of the gi, for kumite no gum shield, no mitts and required protective gear for that division, he/she will be given 2min to rectify this and report back to the tatami. A stopwatch will be activated to keep time and should they not report back to the tatami within the 2 min timeframe they will receive a kiken (disqualification).

4. Age Categories

Age Gender Classification
5 – 13 Years Male & Female Children
14 – 15 Years Male & Female Cadet
16 – 17 Years Male & Female Junior
18 – 34 Years Male & Female Senior
+35 Years Male & Female Veteran

5. Determination the Age of an Athlete
The age of the athlete will be determined by their age as on the 30 August 2025

6. Combining of Divisions
A minimum of four athletes must be registered for the specific category for it to be considered valid. If this quota is not met the Organising Committee reserves the right to combine divisions and accommodate these athletes in the most suited divisions based on age, weight and belt category.

7. Medal Placing
Medals will only be awarded to the top three positions in each category.ie Individual Kata, Individual Kumite
