Doors open at 8:30. If you are early please wait outside because we are getting things ready for you.
Check-in for every competitor is 8:45-9:30. Late competitors may miss their chance to compete. When you check in please confirm your gender, age and categories. We can make any necessary edits at the door, but this is time-consuming.
No registration at the door.
No admission for spectators
Bow-in 9:30 am – All competitors must be in uniform for the bow in, unless officiating. Line up with your schoolmates for the ceremony.
Competition starts 9:45 am
We will run 4 rings, beginning with the younger competitors. We plan to have children under 12 finished by 1pm. Around 1pm we will have team patterns and black belt division, then continue with the older age groups around 2pm and onward.
Competition Format
Children 12 and under can enter two categories (patterns and continuous sparring)
Patterns divisions will follow single elimination format with 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals awarded.
Sparring divisions:
4 or fewer competitors will have round robin style
5 competitors will have repechage (2nd chance) brackets with one bronze
6+ competitors will have repechage (2nd chance) brackets with two bronze
All rounds 90 seconds. No coaches’ chair.
Ages 13+ can enter three categories (patterns, continuous sparring and point sparring)
Patterns divisions will follow single elimination format with 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals awarded.
Sparring divisions:
Single elimination brackets with 1 gold, 1 silver and one bronze
All rounds 90 seconds. Coaches’ chair only for black belt divisions.
Team Patterns
Registration through Kihapp did not work very well for team patterns (this is our first time using this software and we are still learning). Competitors will register (and pay) for team patterns at the head table from 10:15-11:15. Please connect with your instructor and have them accompany you to the table to register. Team patterns will be scored individually through one performance.
Adult Black Belt Sparring Divisions
We will adjust these on the day of the competition to make the best divisions possible.
Live results and times
Once the competition starts, we will turn on the live results and match time features of Kihapp. You can see your scheduled times by logging in. Please note that these are estimates only and are subject to adjustment. Please check back regularly for updates and ring reassignments. Because entrants/divisions may change throughout the day as we get new information, please note that your scheduled opponent(s) may change before the division begins.
Ettiquette
If this is your first event with us please know that we have very high standards of behavior for competitors, guests and spectators. This is a family friendly event. One of the key tenets of martial arts is self-control and we expect that to be on full display at our competition. Taunting of other competitors or poor sportsmanship does not happen at our events, and if it does it generally results in quick expulsion. Corner judges and referees are not to be approached or distracted while they are performing their duties. Verbal (or any) abuse of officials by competitors or spectators will likely also result in expulsion. Unruly parents or instructors will see their children/students and themselves expelled from the event. Any appeals to officials MUST be made through instructor only.
We look forward to a fantastic day of competition and friendship. If you leave with a medal that is great. If you leave having made a new friend that is even better! You have already earned something just by having the courage to enter: Knowledge + experience = wisdom.
Thank you again for supporting our event. Next July we will be hosting a World Cup event in Lethbridge. This will be a massive tournament with a large international contingent. We are hosting it at the Lethbridge exhibition. Please consider supporting this tournament as well.
Kind regards,
GM Darin Gibson
