General Information

DEAR MARTIAL ARTIST,
You and your school are cordially invited to participate in the 2023 MORRIS MACK OPEN. For the past 46 years, the Yakima School of Karate has hosted one of the most prestigious karate tournament in the Pacific Northwest. Inviting friends, from across the country, to demonstrate their passion of karate, tae kwon do, kenpo, and kung fu in a safe and fair environment. Once again, the Yakima School of Karate, would like to invite you to participate in the 2023 MORRIS MACK OPEN. A tournament dedicated to continuing the legacy of Hanshi Morris Mack.

PARKING FEE
Parking fee is NOT handled by tournament organizers. Separate parking fee will be taken when you enter parking area for complex. Parking fee is $5.

SPECTATOR FEE
$5 for 7 yrs and over.
$0 for 6 yrs and under

THIS IS A NON-CONTACT TOURNAMENT
The printed rules clearly state: “Each contestant is responsible for the control of his/her techniques.” All competitors must wear protective equipment that is required by the referee counsel; gloves, helmet, mouth guard & groin protection (males). Other protective equipment can be worn as long as it is allowed by the chief referee. The wearing of the equipment is for the protection of the participants, NOT TO PROMOTE CONTACT. Contact violations will be given by the referee panel. 3 violations will result in disqualification. The Referee, with a majority vote, may elevate a contact violation if necessary, including up to disqualification. Any contestant maliciously causing injury to their opponent will be disqualified immediately and will be awarded Shikaku, exit from the tournament.

AWARDS
The MORRIS MACK OPEN will feature for the first time a 3D die-cast medal with the silhouette of Hanshi Morris Mack for all 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in all kata, kobudo, and kumite divisions. 4th, 5th & 6th place awards for all divisions 17 years and under. Amazing awards will be presented to the “Most Winning Schools”. Beautiful awards will be awarded for Grand Champion in Adult Kata, male & female Kumite, and Jr. Grand Champion Kata, male & female Kumite.

Rank Description/Key:
Beginner = 0 - 1 yr experience
Novice = 1 - 2 yr experience
Intermediate = 2 - 4 yr experience
Advanced = Black Belt
*Divisions may be combined.
