General Information

Invitational Karate Tournament. This tournament is a fundraiser for Treasure Valley Karate booster Club. Which provides support for Inland Empire AAU Karate of Southern Idaho Athletes & Coaches, travel, gear and registration fee.

Thanks to all that have come to our tournament last year. With the amazing response we had, so many people were asking if we were going to have it again in 2022. Then answer is YES!!

Because we had an overwhelming response to the first tournament and we were able to get the first tournament financial necessities out of the way we wanted to decrease the price so that more participants could compete in more divisions. We would love to see everyone participate in all the divisions. A few of them were added due to request and because they are so much fun!

This tournament is for any and all martial artist interested in participating in an educational tournament. Divisions available are Kata, Kumite, Kobudo, Synchronized Kata, Blocker Sparring, Sparring, Rotational Sparring, Blind Kata, Inclusive Kata & Inclusive Basics.

We encourage judges to give critique and competitors to ask judges for recommendations. This event is for all who would like to learn and get feed back on how to better themselves.

Seminar begins at 6pm and ends at 7pm.
Seminar on Friday September 23rd with Ron Piston, covering the Fundamental Application for the Naifanchi Kata's.

Sensei Ron Piston has been training in the martial arts for over 35 years and has been teaching for 15 years. He has studied various martial arts including: Karate, Jujitsu, Aikijujitsu, Aikido, and Kobudo (weapons training) and has gained a vast technical knowledge in kata (forms), bunkai (applications), kyusho jitsu (pressure points), kansetsu (joint locks), and jiko boei (self-defense).

After relocating to Boise Idaho in 1995, Ron was fortunate to continue this martial arts training in Kei Shin Kan under the supervision of Sensei Isaac Espinoza, United States Representative of the Japan Kei Shin Kan Karate Do Association. Ron currently holds the rank of Yon Dan (4th degree black belt) and is a senior instructor at Boise Kei Shin Kan.

Boise Kei Shin Kan Karate Do was established in 1972 and is a dojo dedicated to following the teachings of Okinawa Seito Karate-Do (Okinawa Orthodox Karate-do) as passed on by Master Kanken Toyama through Master Masanao Takazawa. Kei Shin Kan literally translates as: Kei - respectful Shin - heart and soul Kan - place to develop these qualities.

Even if you do not know the kata this is a great seminar to work on understanding the basics of application.

Expect to have a great time, for both Youth & Adult, Beginner to Black Belt!

Judges will need to participate in a judges class to be able to judge.
Judges meeting will begin at 8:00am - 9:30am, Saturday 24th.
Judges class is for ALL students and instructors that hold a Black Belt title in their home dojo.

Have not judged before? What a GREAT time to learn and get guidance and coaching from others and do something you have not done before. The competitors having fun really depend on great judges that donate their time to help in the rings.

Center judges will have extensive knowledge of judging criteria so will be picked by tournament host.

Tournament rules will be modified AAU Karate rules.

Kumite will be by bracket system, depending on quantity of participants it may be single, double or Repechage elimination. We want everyone to have a chance to spar but also understand your time is important.

Kumite divisions will be NO Contact to face and controlled contact to body. No transfer of energy can take place.
Mandatory gear for Kumite (sparring): Competitor is responsible for their own Helmet, Mouth Guards, Gloves, Groin Protector (cup for males).

Gloves must be karate foam or Naugahyde gloves, may not be boxing or MMA gloves.
Optional: Chest Guard (must be worn under uniform top), Foam Shin and foot Guards. (NO plastic Shin guards will be allowed.)

Kata scoring will be by points system. 1 Ring may have the AAU Division Flag sparring in it to allow competitors to try Flag Judging Kata.
